Green Building "Green building" is no longer just a catchy buzz phrase pertaining to a handful of sustainable design projects. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Chicagoland area, where local officials, developers, contractors and unions are working together to promote environmentally friendly buildings as the standard, not the exception. However, all the green technology and design in the world won't make up for inadequately designed and installed insulation of mechanical systems. The proper thickness of insulation on all mechanical systems, such as hot water heating pipes and air ducts, will dramatically reduce energy consumption and allow for a more efficient building. For more than 100 years, the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators - Local 17 and the affiliated contractors of the Illinois Regional Contractors Association (IRIC) have been saving energy, and our work is more relevant today than ever.
If your facility is like most, this image isn't uncommon. However, it's important to understand that un-insulated valves cost you a significant amount of money, while emitting carbon dioxide into the environment.
If you properly insulate a valve with 2"
of insulation, you will see immediate
results.
